NATURE CAMP AT SILENT VALLEY

We staretd for our 3 day camp at silent valley from our school at 10.30 AM in school bus. When we reached at Perimthalmanna bus stand got the bus to Mannarkkad. At Mannarkkad we waited a long time to get bus to Mukkali. There we saw two persons fighting each other. Many people surrounded them including Sajid sir. We got the bus at 1.30 PM. Going through the mountain pass was a wonderful experience. We felt cold because of the greenery of the area.

At 3 PM we reached Mukkali and had the lunch. Then we went to the hostel. Guide showed us our room. It was a big hall including sanitory arrangements. After refreshing we went to the class room. Guide told us the rule and regulations that we have to obey. He told us that at 4 PM we will get a tea after tha we have to go to Herbal garden near the hostel. When we reached there we saw many different types of herbal plants. Some of them were bitter,sweet,sour in taste. We noted the name of the plants. This garden is situated near the river Bhavani. It flows with a high force towards east.

When we returned a team of Sun TV was waiting for us. They were shooting a documentary about Silent Valley. They asked a student to talk about Silent valley. Anagha came forward to share her experience. Then we came back and took rest.

At 7 PM a pretty looking Madom came and took class for an hour. She is the Wlid Life Assistant of Silent valley. After the class we had the dinner. It was gruel and chana. It was very tasty. Then we saw some CDs about wild life and went for sleep.

We got thrilled when we knew that next day we will go to the forest for getting the bites of the leech. We had the bed coffee at 6.45 AM. Then a session for meditaion at 7 PM. After that we went to have our break fast. It Upma with banana. Then we started to keeripara.

The forest was semi evergreen and decidous.When we reached deep into the forest the disturbance of leech became more. We saw hornbill, snakes, different types of trees etc. It was a wonderful experiance. On the way we saw many beautiful streams. We reached the Camp. Guide showed us the wide buffer area of the forest. We took many photographs. After spending some time there we returned.

At 12.30 we reached the Hostel and had the lunch. Next session was very interesting. teachers and students sit together and shared our experiences. We palyed many games. In the evening at 7 PM madom came and took class. She showed Map of Slient valley and many photos of birds,snakes,wild animals,flowers etc. After dinner we saw a CD about butterflies. it was interesting to hear the life cycle of butterflies.

Next day we went to see the Bhavani river. We walked 6 KM to reach there. On the way we saw children going to school. All the houses we saw on the way were very small. Guide told us to walk through the side of the river. There were big rocks,small stones, and very small stones with different shapes and colors. We collected many stones from there. There we met the famous film director sathyan Anthikkad. We didn't talk to him because there were already many students gathered arround him.

We didn't forget to purchase things like honey, pickles, pathimukham, photos etc. Before packing our bags the guide gave us a form to fill. We wrote our experiences and suggestions. Then it was time for our return.

The past three days were preciuos for us. We studied somany things about forest and wild life. On the way to home we remind every moments and events the silent valley had given us. It was great!
